A team of 12 cyclists has been selected to represent South African at the upcoming African Continental Championships in Windhoek, Namibia.

The Championship will take place from the 4th to the 8th of November and will consist of the following events:
Men’s Team Time Trial over 40km
Women’s Time Trail over 20km
Men’s Time trial over 30km
Ladies Road race over 80km
Men’s Road race over 150km

In the Ladies race we should see an exciting race as most of the ladies have campaigned in Europe this season.

Marissa van der Merwe finished within the top 30 ladies at the World Championships and should be the hot favorite for the road race, but recently the upcoming youngster, Ashleigh Moolman, has been taking some major wins and placings.

Evergreen South African champ, Lynette Burger and former Junior World Silver medalist, Cherise Taylor, completes the line up. Cycling South African has selected a squad of fast finishers as well as aggressive riders, so it should be great to watch!

In the men’s road race the current SA fast man, Arran Brown, will join forces with his normal arch rivals in South African racing, the trio of Ian McLeod, Christoff van Heerden and Jay Thomson to bring back the Championship to South Africa.

Luthando Kaka, who has been racing for the Danish Glud and Maarstrand team, will also be a force to be reckoned with alongside promising youngster, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg.

South Africa’s own mountain bike U23 World Champion, Burry Stander, will also join in on the action on the roads of Namibia.
