The Engen Dynamic Cycle Race in Wellington was won by Neil Macdonald of Team Medscheme. Macdonald gave his breakaway companions the slip with a few kilometers remaining of the 99km race in Wellington.

The breakaway group was whittled down to just 3 riders that included David Garret (Daikin GU) Malcolm Lange and Macdonald (Team Medscheme). In the finale Macdonald got away to win alone. Lange had his back, and out sprinted Garret for second place.

The wind had played a large part in the race and the earlier break had contained the first three, plus Arran Brown, Luthando Kaka, and Charles Keey. The wind and attacks had reduced the group to the final three riders before the end.

Brown finished 4th, less than a minute behind Macdonald, beating Kaka, and Keey lost a bit more time to finish in 6th place. The bunch came home a few minutes later.

This is the first victory for Macdonald after he broke his ankle in an accident at the Medscheme Walkerville Classic in July. He had returned to competition in late August, and seems to be on track to regaining the form he had prior to that crash!
